Governor Oborevwori Committed to Quality Education in Public Primary Schools – Mariere


Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB has assured parents of government resolve to reform public primary school education in the state to create a safe and conducive learning environment as well as quality education to their wards.

Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Hon Samuel Mariere gave the assurance in Ethiope West and Sapele local government areas in continuation of the board and management advocacy visits to critical stakeholders in public primary schools across the 25 local government areas of the state.

The SUBEB Boss said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has mandated the board to Implement transformational reforms at the primary school level, saying that basic education is the bedrock of any advanced society of the world.

Hon Mariere noted that the state government has committed so much in the recruitment of teaching and non teaching staff, capacity building, renovations of class room blocks, promotions of staffs as well as payment of outstanding arrears to motivate workers.

He said to reposition the public primary schools, head teachers of grade level 15 would be transferred to the Local Education Authority Offices to bring their wealth of experience to bear in monitoring teachers for quality basic education.

The SUBEB Chairman stated that teachers who had been in the rural area for over three years should be redeployed to the urban town, adding that no amount of lobbying would change government reforms no matter the pressure from highly placed individuals.

Mariere appealed to head teachers not to extort money from parents as such will lead to dismissal, emphasizing that education in Delta State is free.

He also admonished teachers to pay attention to their duties in teaching the pupils and to support government to succeed in bringing back lost glories, standards and quality in public primary education.

Hon Mariere called on the community based school management committees to take care of schools in their localities by protecting the infrastructures, even as he urged head of teachers to work closely with the community leaders.

He called the Local Education Authority and the Quality Assurance Committee of the board to enforce the new reforms for quality teaching and learning.

The SUBEB Chairman commended the SBMC Chairman of Ugbukurusu Community, Evang Friday Ayan for the employment of three teachers as well as provisions of school materials, including bags and foot wears to pupils in the Community which led to increase in enrollment in the school.

He said the board will come up with awards for outstanding SBMC.

The Head of Personnel Management of Ethiope West and Sapele local government councils, Mr Ogono Jonathan and Mr Victor Okpue, the Education Secretaries Ethiope west and Sapele LGAs, Mr Godwin Iboyilie and Pastor Dave Inoaghan, promised to support government reforms in the public primary schools education.

The various Unions in the two local government areas, appreciated the Governor for the employment of teaching and non teaching staff, even as they assured government of required support in line with the ongoing reforms.

His Royal Majesty Noble Oyibob Eshemitan Uku-Oghara-name, Orefe III, ovie of Oghara kingdom, welcomed the MORE agenda reforms in education sector and promised community support.
