Fubara Denied Access to Rivers Assembly Amid Bid to Re-Present 2025 Budget

Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, and members of his executive council were unable to access the Assembly Quarters of the State House of Assembly on Wednesday.

The Governor, dressed in a white outfit with a red cap, arrived at the quarters along Aba Road in the morning, only to find the gate locked.

Speaking to journalists, Fubara explained that his visit was to re-present the 2025 Appropriation Bill in compliance with the recent Supreme Court judgment.

Accompanying the Governor were key officials, including the Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, and the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo.

“I came here this morning with a few of my EXCO members to comply with the Supreme Court judgment,” Fubara said. “Before my arrival, I made several attempts by phone to reach the Speaker and other members. I also personally sent a letter to the Hon. Speaker requesting an invitation to re-present the budget.”

Expressing his disappointment, the Governor noted that despite his efforts, the Assembly gate was sealed, with no indication that a session would hold.

He added, “The reason we are doing this is for the interest of our people, which remains the most important thing. I hope to hear from the Speaker soon—maybe they are still reviewing the letter.”
