The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed former Mali international, Eric Chelle as the head coach of the Super Eagles.
The NFF announced Chelle’s appointment on Tuesday, January 7, tasking him with leading the Super Eagles to success on the international stage.
Here are five key things to know about the new man in charge:
- Early Life: Eric Chelle was born on November 11, 1977, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, he holds Malian citizenship. He was raised in France by his French father and Malian mother.
- Playing Career: Chelle was a central defender during his playing days, he featured prominently in French football, representing clubs like Valenciennes, Lens, Istres, and Chamois Niortais.
- Coaching Journey: Chelle has coached several teams in Africa and Europe, focusing on developing young players and building strong team dynamics. Chelle managed clubs such as GS Consolat (France amateur league), FC Martigues (Ligue 2), Boulogne (Championnat National), and MC Oran (Algerian Ligue), between 2017 and 2022.
- Achievements and Qualifications: Chelle holds a UEFA Pro License, the highest coaching certification in Europe. His highest achievement as a national team coach is taking the Mali national team to the quarter-finals of the AFCON in 2023.
- Language Skills:Â Fluent in French, English, and several African languages, Chelle is equipped to connect effectively with his diverse squad.
