FG Set to Receive Deported Nigerians from US – NiDCOM

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has announced that the Federal Government is set to receive deported Nigerians from the United States.

This was made known by the Director of Media and Corporate Affairs of the commission, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, during an interview with VANGUARD on Tuesday,

Balogun stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in charge of handling the situation, adding that an inter-agency committee has been set up to manage the potential deportation.

“The Federal Government has set up an inter-agency committee, comprising the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NiDCOM, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, should there be mass deportation of Nigerians from the US,” Balogun stated.

However, NiDCOM emphasized that it is not aware of any Nigerians in the US being processed for deportation.

This announcement comes amid reports that approximately 3,690 Nigerians in the US are facing deportation due to Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration.

A document from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement revealed that as of November 24, 2024, there are 1,445,549 non-citizens with final removal orders. Mexico and El Salvador top the list of countries with the most deportation cases, with 252,044 and 203,822, respectively.
