Ex-Lawmakers Appeal to Tinubu Over Unpaid Salaries
Former members of the House of Representatives from the South-West states of Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, and Lagos have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the payment of their outstanding salaries and allowances.
The ex-lawmakers, who served in the botched Third Republic, made the plea during a meeting in Osogbo on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
Their spokesperson, John Fasogbon, who represented Ife Federal Central Constituency, noted that President Tinubu, who was a senator during the same period, understands their plight. Fasogbon urged the President to use his office to ensure the payment of their entitlements, citing the hardships faced by many former lawmakers, including poverty and loss of hope.
The ex-lawmakers also drew parallels with the recognition given to the late MKO Abiola and his running mate, Baba Gana Kingibe, by former President Muhammadu Buhari, and requested similar consideration from President Tinubu.
While commending the President’s achievements in his first year in office, Fasogbon emphasized the need for the President to come to their aid, stating that they served the country meritoriously and deserve their entitlements.
