Evwreni Ward 8 PDP Stakeholders Adopt Zoning Arrangements, Seek Party’s LG Chairmanship

The leadership, stakeholders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Ward 8, Evwreni in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, has adopted the report of the five man zoning Committee for the forthcoming elections of principal officers of the party in the Ward.

At the well attended meeting, held on Sunday 31st March 2024 at Evwreni, the people adopted recommendations that the Ward Chairmanship Position should go to Unenurhie Community in the kingdom, while positions of the Vice Chairman and Secretary were zoned to Okpawha and Urevwe communities respectively.

The Uneni community in Evwreni got the Youth Leader position in the zoning arrangements as recommended by the five man committee.

A statement issued at the end of the meeting, the stakeholders explained that since the inception of the party in 1998, Unenurhie Community has never produced the Ward Chairman, hence the adoption of the committee recommendation.

It said Late Chief English Oberokpa, the first Chairman of the party in the ward was from Okpawha community, followed by Sir Okiemute Okorogri, from Urevwe and the current Chairman. Chief John Iyu, from Uneni Community.

“In the same vein the Counselorship Position was zoned to both Uneni and Urevwe Communities”, noting that since the inception of the present political era Unenurhie has produced 2 Counselors, namely Chief John Erienu and Mr. Napoleon Umukoro.

“Okpawha has produced 3 Counselors, Chief Ohare Emuobosa, Mr Desmond Ikpugbu and Mr. Ezekiel Odeimor. While Urevwe and Uneni has produced one each, Prince Ochuko Kumane and Onochuroboke Oberokpa (Saroga) respectively”.

The stakeholders insisted that it is turn of EVWRENI Ward 8 to produce the local government Chairman of the PDP as it remains the only Clan, Kingdom or Ward that has never produced the LGA Chairman in Ughelli North.

“Ogor Ward/Clan has produced 3 LGA Party Chairmen, Chief JB Oduma, Chief Abraham Wiskey and Chief Okpuwara.

“Agbarha Ward/Clan has produced 2 LGA Chairmen, Chief Bestman Itive and Chief Unavwa.

“Orogun Clan has produced 2 Chairmen Chief Akporugo and Chief Imonierho, so also Ughelli and Agbarho clans in the local government area.

“EVWRENI is the strong hold of the party in Ughelli North, the only ward that won in all the election from presidential, senatorial, House of Representatives, Governorship and House of Assembly 2023 general elections.

“The ward should be given the right and respect it deserves”, the statement added.

The meeting was attended by the PDP Ward Chairman, Chief John Iyu, Mr. Ovwighose, Vice Chairman, Mr Johnson Oruvwefi, Secretary and other party officials, including Chief Simon Asite, LGA Secretary and Mr Kari Jerome, LGA ex-officio.

Party Leaders including Hon Samuel Mariere, Okiemute Ikorogri, Faith Adjogbe, Eloho Uwhobe, prince Ochuko kumane, Hon Ezekiel Odiemor and others from the 4 communities.

Over 600 PDP faithfuls across the 18 electoral units in Wards 8 attended the meeting which lasted for hours.
