Ethiope East PDP Reaffirms Support for Governor Oborevwori’s Administration


The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the sincere and diligent pursuit of his administration’s MORE Agenda for the overall development of the state.

The confidence vote was passed on Governor Oborevwori by Ethiope East PDP family at a gathering of major stakeholders of the party in the area hosted by Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo at his Eku residence.

At the gathering on Saturday some decampees from the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ward 4, led by Chief Sunday Oyibo were received into the party.

The Eku residence of the Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo had the convergence of key stakeholders of the PDP in Ethiope East which include local government and ward leaders, local government and ward executives of the party, councillors, and political appointees.

It was an atmosphere of conviviality and a sense of fulfillment for the political actors having assiduously contributed their quota to ensure the PDP won the Ethiope East House Assembly seat after twelve years.

The man in the driver’s seat for breaking the jinx, Rt. Hon. Akpowowo while welcoming all at the gathering met to appreciate the party stakeholders harped on the need for all to remain united to consolidate on the path of victory that led to his emergence as member representing Ethiope East Constituency and subsequently as Deputy Speaker of the State Legislature even as a first timer.

He commended the visionary leadership of the state governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, especially for his good governance strides, saying that the governor’s magnanimity is inestimable and reflected in the appointment of Prof Nyerhovwo Tonukari as Commissioner for Higher Education, Chief Sunday Onoriode as State Director of Protocols and other important appointments in the LGA since May 29, 2023 and counting.

The Deputy Speaker said Governor Oborevwori came prepared, fully armed with his MORE agenda to Advance Delta, as can be seen from the ongoing construction of three flyovers, road expansion projects and pedestrian bridges at DSC Roundabout, PTI junction, Effurun Roundabout and Enerhen junction up to Marine Gate, awarded to construction giant, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc at a cost of N78 billion, as well as other ongoing projects across the state.

He promised not to disappoint the confidence reposed in by the people of the Ethiope East by effective representation in the Green Chamber and attracting the needed empowerment and development to the area.

“I want to use this rare privilege to thank the Leader of our great party in Delta State, His Excellency Elder Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori the Executive Governor of Delta State for his leadership roles that has held the fabrics of our great party. Also, Special thanks to His Excellency Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa the immediate past governor of our dear State for his fatherly role and meaningful advice, Our PDP Chairman Delta State Olorogun Kingsley Esiso Esq. for his service to our party.

“My emergence as Deputy Speaker was an act of God divinely manifested through His Excellency, Elder Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori and our respected party Leaders, again I must appreciate His Excellency! Also I want to thank my colleagues for the confidence reposed in me by nominating and electing me as the Deputy Speaker of the most Vibrant State House of Assembly in Nigeria, the Delta State 8th Assembly, I do not not take this for granted and I promised never to disappoint them!

“Thank you all for adding colours to my inauguration and subsequent Church thanksgiving service, the show of love was massive. The end of one election is the beginning of another election hence, I want you to know I never forgot my electoral promises. Be rest assured that development projects will commence this year 2024 across the eleven wards of Ethiope East,” said the Deputy Speaker.

Chairman of PDP in Ethiope East Local Government Area, Hon Felix Erhimedafe, leader of party in the area, Chief Bernard Edewor, Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof Nyerhovwo Tonukari, Ethiope East Council Chairman, Pharmacist Victor Ofobrukueta and other speakers expressed immense confidence in Governor Oborevwori to develop Delta State evenly and appreciated him for his unique role in ensuring that the PDP in local government area returns to winning ways.

They were also unanimous on the need for all to continue to close ranks for a more united and viral PDP for future successes.

The highlight of the event was a motion moved for a vote of confidence on Governor Oborevwori, by a former member of the House of Representatives for Ethiope Federal Constituency, Rt Hon Akpodiogaga Emeyese, and seconded by Chief Midwest Omo West for the governor’s exemplary good governance strides and unbiased leadership style.

Thereafter some decampees from the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ward 4, led by Chief Sunday Oyibo were welcomed into the PDP by the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Arthur Akpowowo and leaders of the party in the area.

Responding, Chief Oyibo said he has been in opposition for the past twenty-one years and he feels very pleased being received along with his supporters into the PDP family in Ethiope East.
