Edo State NUJ commends Governor Obaseki on Rehabilitation of Roads


The Edo State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for the on-going rehabilitation of roads across the state.

The NUJ chairman, Comrade Roland Osakue gave the commendation when he led executive members of the union on a courtesy visit to The Government House in Benin on Tuesday.

Osakue said that the people of the state were happy with the governor’s developmental strides and the bold steps taken within the first few months of his administration.

He also said that the renovation of roads across the state indicated the Obaseki-led administration’s commitment to improving living standards for all citizens of Edo and not a special set of individuals.

He said, “The NUJ and indeed every good person of the state is happy with your bold steps in revamping the economy of the state. The policy thrust of your administration, which is to grow the state’s economy and provide jobs for the teeming unemployed youths is well received by the union and we can only encourage you to pursue it to its logical conclusion’’ he said.

The Union boss also commended the cordial relationship between the executive and legislative tranches of the government saying it would aid the government to deliver on its promises to the electorates effectively.

He, however, requested the governor to implement the weigh-in allowance for journalists working in state owned media establishments.

Meanwhile, Governor Obaseki commended the union for the role played during his electioneering period.

He also commended the union for ensuring peace in the state thus far via balanced reportage.

He, however, implored the union to be independent and be an agent of change in this era of growing the economy beyond oil.
