Delta Assembly Confirms Aghoghophia Clerk, Edoge Deputy


Delta State House of Assembly has confirmed Mr. Otto Aghoghophia as Clerk of the state legislature

Aghoghophia was confirmed following a motion by Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, and was seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Edafe Emakpor, during Tuesday’s plenary session led by the Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor.

The newly confirmed Clerk who is a lawyer was appointed deputy clerk in March 2017, and stepped into the role of Acting Clerk in June 2023, following the previous Clerk, Mrs. Lyna Ocholor, being appointed as Principal Secretary to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Alongside Aghoghophia’s confirmation, the Assembly also approved the appointment of Mr. Smart Edoge as the new Deputy Clerk. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Edoge served as the head of the Legal Department within the State Legislature, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new position.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, congratulated both Aghoghophia and Edoge on their new roles. He urged them to leverage their extensive experience to enhance the operations of the Clerk’s office and the Legislature as a whole.

The confirmation of Mr. Aghoghophia was met with enthusiasm from various sectors, including the political community and the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) at the Delta State Assembly. Members of PASAN expressed their support and joy over the appointment, emphasizing its significance for the legislative body.

Supporters of Aghoghophia praised his integrity and dedication during his tenure as Deputy Clerk, noting his consistent commitment to his responsibilities. Many described the confirmation as a well-deserved recognition of his hard work and capabilities.
