Breaking News: Delta Records First Positive Case Of Coronavirus Disease


An index case of the deadly coronavirus disease, COVID-19 has been recorded in Delta State.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), a total of  sixteen (16) new confirmed cases of COVID-19 was recorded in Nigeria on April 7, 2020.

Of the 16 new cases reported on the 7th of April, six (10) are in Lagos, two (2) is in FCT, two (2) are in Oyo, one (1) is in Delta and one (1) is in Katsina

All new cases have mild to moderate symptoms and are currently receiving care, NCDC reported.

Till date, 254 cases have been confirmed, 44 cases have been discharged and six (6) deaths have been recorded in Nigeria

It will be recalled that three suspected cases of COVID-19 in Delta State had tested negative.

In response to this latest development, the state Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa via his verified Facebook Page wrote, “This evening, a patient in Delta State tested positive for the #COVID19 virus. This index case is already receiving the necessary treatment at one of our isolation centers. Tomorrow morning, I will be addressing our citizens on developments surrounding this case.

Again, I ask that you all remain calm at this time and continue to adhere to the precautionary measures and isolation directives that we have put in place to keep you and your families safe. I have no doubt whatsoever that we will all get through this together”.

The oil city of Warri has been reported to host this index case and the victim’s identity still remains unknown.
