World Read Aloud Day: Delta Public Primary Schools Get Free Jolly Phonics Application


In a bid to promote reading amongst teachers and pupils in the State using jolly phonics, the Universal Learning Solutions Initiative, managers of Jolly Phonics in Delta State public primary schools has donated the newly developed decodable story application, JOLLY READERS to be downloaded for free.

The State Coordinator of Learners Solutions Initiative, Miss Ajumuka Nkechi disclosed this during the week at the conference hall of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) at the commemoration of the 2020 World Read Aloud Day celebration which was attended by pupils and teachers from some selected public primary Schools in Asaba.

Miss Ajumuka said the day was founded by Lit World in the year 2010 as an opportunity for people all around the globe to celebrate the joy of reading aloud.

While announcing the donation of the free Jolly Phonics application developed by Universal Learning Solutions Initiative as part of their commitment to promote jolly phonics, the Coordinator of the Initiative stated that the app was available for download on the Google play Store to every teacher, parents and education official in the state.

She stressed that this digital interface would make a wide variety of decodable stories readily accessible in both classroom and home for continued academic improvement.

In her words, “over the last ten years, World Read Aloud Day has evolved into a global movement of millions of readers, writers and listeners from communities all across the world coming together to honour the joy and power of reading, and sharing stories, and continue expanding the definition and scope of global literacy.

She commended the Delta State government for acknowledging the importance of reading aloud and always being at the forefront and supportive of new initiatives and making literacy its primary focus.

Highlight of the event was practical reading aloud and presentations by pupils from various schools in the state.

Executive Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Hon Sunny Ogwu represented by Mrs Philomena Ededey, Director Teachers Development, Mrs Juliet Eze-Ofili and staff of the board graced the occasion.
