Delta Poly Lecturer Murdered by Unknown Gunmen in Ogwashi-Uku


Barely few hours after the full buzz of security operatives around the Delta State capital, Asaba for the inauguration of Dr Ifeanyi Okowa as Governor of Delta State for a second term, unknown gunmen have reportedly shot dead a middle aged man in Ogwashi-Uku close to Asaba.

Ogwashi-Uku which is the headquarters of Aniocha South Local Government Area on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 witnessed an attack by suspected assassins which led to the loss of life of one Mr John Chukwudi, a lecturer with the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku.

The murder which reportedly took place along Azagba/Ogwashi-Uku road, at the junction of the popular Mega Chi hotel, few metres from the Campus C of the Polytechnic, saw residents of the community scamper for safety as gun wielding men rained bullets on the victim while seated in his vehicle.

According to a confidential source, the deceased died from repeated gun shots on the spot which the Police authorities have confirmed as intense investigations by other security agencies is said to have commenced on the incident.

A confidential eye witness account disclosed that late Mr John Chukwudi alias Biggy, an Entrepreneurship Development Lecturer at the time of the incident, was having a joy ride in his recently acquired Mercedes Benz with a an unknown friend who survived the attack.

The witness narration as translated from the local dialect ‘ibo’ revealed that, “He was shot about 6 times and they waited for him to die before they left. The guy with him ran to Mega Chi for help but people were scared to come out as more gunshots continued”.
