2023: Delta North Senatorial Candidate, Kanma Rallies Anioma Nation for Peter Obi, Labour Party

Labour Party candidate for Delta North senatorial district in the 2023 general elections, Hon. Ken Kanma, has called on Anioma people who make up Delta North to realise that the future of Nigeria is in the collective hands of Nigerians, hence the nation should not be handed over to the wrong people.

Hon. Kanma, who is passionate over the welfare of Delta North people told journalists in Ogwashi Uku, headquarters of Aniocha South that “If we carry Nigeria of our future and give it to the wrong people, we may not have Nigeria to call our own in the nearest future.”

He said Delta North people should not wait for people to come to them for campaign but rather everyone should take up the campaign and move from door to door to campaign for all people to vote for people with vision and proven mission for the good of all Nigerians and especially the Anioma land.

He said: “Everyone should tell the other that the time for the rebirth of Nigeria is now. All of us must gather together and vote for the right person at all levels. We must also defend our votes after casting them. This is our duty for the good of Nigeria.”

Hon. Kanma, a lawyer also revealed that he is contesting for the Delta North senate to make a great difference compared to what others who have occupied the position over the years have done. He said he is bent on making a difference in the area of accountability.

“I will make impact in the area of accountability. I sometimes look at what government does for my senatorial district. They award contracts, but these contracts do not get done. I believe that when government has awarded contracts, the government has done its job. It is the duty of the senator to sit on the neck of the contractor to ensure the project is executed.

“This is because if it is done, it is for the good of his people. Anybody the executive decides to give it to is immaterial but once the senator says you must do it, you must do it. If I’m a senator and you are given a contract in Delta North, better do it because I can assure you that you cannot get away with it.

“That’s one thing I will do which others have not considered very strongly. There are still a lot of things that ought to be done but not being done. If you stay in Ogwashi Uku, you will see that we have a major federal government job, the dam between Aniocha and Oshimili. If you look at it, you will see that it has been declared completed but not completed. How can a project be said to have been completed when it has not been completed?

“I asked around and I got different responses. It is the duty of the senator, having evaluated the fact that it has not been completed, whatever the reason, the senator should put it back into the budget. He must ensure that it provides what it is meant to provide that is when it can be deemed completed.

“I entered Ndokwa area a couple of weeks ago. I was told that for almost a year the area has not got light but Ndokwa provides light for the rest part of the country. This has been happening and our people keep quiet about it. How can we provide light for others and we don’t get in our place? No, it cannot be. These are the things I see our former representatives are not looking at.

“They have to look at it. That is why we sent them there. That is what we are supposed to be doing. If our people are actually up and doing, they cannot allow light to be taken from our place and leave us in darkness. You should take light but you can’t leave us in darkness. It has to be done. If they don’t want to do it then they should not give anybody light. A senator is supposed to sit down and ensure it gets done.

“There are places in Ndokwa where government presence is just to extract. But if you extract anything from our place, you need to return something to our place. There are so many places that have been cut out. There are some places in Ndokwa east you cannot get there by road except you go round and round before you get there. This is a place where government is extracting oil, that is wrong. That is an aberration. If you are taking something from our place you should return something to our place.

“In the Anioma nation, there are several places you have challenges of light. We believe we have grown beyond that level where they give us light two hours a day, three hours a day, whatever the problem, it has a solution. The problem has to be tackled until solution is provided. If the government is focused on ensuring this thing works it must work.”

On Peter Obi’s aspiration to become Nigeria’s president, Hon. Kanma said Obi’s vision is for the good of all Nigerians, noting that the people of Delta North should key into the vision because Obi has a good heart to take Nigeria to a new level. He said every Nigerian should key into Obi’s vision, adding that it’s time to take Nigeria from the woods.

He said: “We need the qualities of Peter Obi in this country. We need men who have passion for the good of this country. We need people who think about the future consequences of their actions. In the past it was a futile journey to enter into politics because you must be corrupted. When you see people who think good, who are looking for merit, who want people’s desires to count, those qualities are in Obi. This is what Nigerians need.”
