Delta LG Elections: Group Writes Okowa, Says No Zoning In Ethiope East
…Alleges top PDP leader’s plans to hijack Chairmanship position in the name of zoning
A group known as Ethiope East Agbon 1 PDP Realistic Movement, has vowed to resist any plan by any political leader to impose a Chairmanship aspirant on Ethiope East people in the name of zoning, saying that all aspirants be allowed to exercise his or her franchise over the contest of the Ethiope East Chairmanship position.
The group has also alleged, that a top PDP leader plans to hijack the chairmanship position to his ward in the name of zoning formula which has never existed in the history of elections in Ethiope East.
The group who expressed dissatisfaction and displeasure on how some top leaders of the party were using the name of the governor that he has zoned the Chairmanship position to a particular ward, should desist from such act that is capable of destroying the party that the governor of Delta state, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa has taken time to build.
The group made this statement credited to one of the leaders of the Delta State Peoples Democratic party, PDP, that the Chairmanship position of the local government council was zoned to a ward in Agbon, Ethiope East local government area, saying that
The group in a statement signed by the chairman, Comrade Efena Omoibor and Secretary, Mr. Lucky Ejenavwokai, said the statement of zoning disclosed during a meeting called by the leader of the Ethiope East PDP, Chief Benard Edewor to meet with the 29 selected leaders for the forthcoming chairmanship primaries was a cooked story being spread all over the local government area.
The Chairman of the group who briefed journalists on the development said there was never a time when the chairmanship position of the local government has been zoned to either Agbon 1, Agbon 2 or Abraka, it has always been an open contest where all aspirants allowed to show their popularity.
The group said it will be unfair if the leadership of the party refuse to create a level playing ground for all aspirants instead of supporting a particular aspirant against others, saying that from 1999 till present day, that there was never a time chairmanship position was zoned to a particular area.
The Chairman of the group who said he is from Agbon 1, Okurekpo said he will always be against anything that will bring disunity to the party, saying that Agbon 1 had in the past produced late Chief Ochuko Unuagba for two tenures as chairman and was later appointed as Caretaker Committee chairman for another year and Agbon1 never saw anything wrong.
He said the election that brought Chief Tony Oboro of Agbon 2 as Chairman was also contested with Chief Alex Imara of Agbon1 and nobody argued that it was the turn of Agbon 2, that nobody should contest it with him, that tells you that there was never a time zoning existed.
He appealed to the Governor lfeanyi Okowa to look into the lingering issues and come up with a statement before it will be too late, saying that they will resist any plan for any leader to impose an aspirant on the people of Ethiope East without passing through due process.
