Revenue: Delta Govt Commissions New Agency for Tax Drive on Physical Development
The Delta state government has commissioned an agency to generate funds to the state government through tax payment from physical infrastructural development across the state.
The GMD/CEO of Babsfield Corporate Ventures Limited incharge of the revenue tax drive, Chief Julius Babogha told newsmen that his company was commissioned as task force to generate revenue for the state government from physical infrastructures.
Babogha said those infrastructures to be levied includes private schools, banks, filling stations, hotels and others, pointing out that this is a new revenue generating body instituted by the state government and that his company is the task force in charge.
He said, “The duty of the task force is to issue demand notice, place stickers to that effect and a grace of two weeks given to such business premises or institution, and in that demand notice, you will find out the different IGR account numbers and banks of the state government, which such company will pay into and receipt issued.
“Is it a yearly revenue not monthly, and it is in categories, like we have zone A or zone B, and it is base on location and as for hotels they have their grades and filling stations also have their grades.
“On issues of conflicts arising from the revenue collection, I don’t think there will be any form of conflicts because some of the IGR are on the residual list while some fall under the residual, concurrent or exclusive list.
“Some of this revenue are basically for state while some are for the local government. So we know the one that belong to the state government and the one that belong to local.
“In this levy or tax drive according to the law, when they fail, they will be taken to a revenue court and have their business premises sealed. But it all depends on the approach and understanding, and after exploring all possible avenue and they still fail, then you do the needful.
“So I will appeal to the people to also help the government. We should not depend solely on oil. For example, in Lagos State, they pay all their revenues and they use this to fix infrastructures. So I am appealing to the people to support the government.”
