Delta Court Sentences Two Murderers to Death by Hanging
A Delta State High Court sitting in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area, has sentenced the duo of Mr. Ojerbo Solomon and Mr. Ola Babatunde to death by hanging.
The court convicted the defendants of murder, armed robbery, and rape after an eight-year trial.
The prosecution, led by Mr. Edema, presented evidence through five witnesses. It was demonstrated that on February 8, 2016, the defendants, armed with firearms, cutlasses, and knives, burglarized the victims’ residence and committed the crimes.
During the robbery, the defendants raped the victims and subsequently slit their throats. Mr. Praise Sunday survived the attack, but his mother and sister did not.
The defendants fled on the victim’s motorcycle to Ewohimi in Edo State, where they were later apprehended by the police.
Throughout the trial, the defendants denied the allegations but did not call any witnesses in their defense.
On Monday, Justice Omovie delivered the judgment, stating that the prosecution had proven the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Consequently, the defendants were convicted and sentenced to death by hanging.
