Delta Assembly Calls For Collaborative Efforts To Check Youth Related Crimes
The Delta State House of Assembly has expressed concern over the spate of youth related crimes in the society and stressed the need for stakeholders to collaborate to check it.
The Chairman, House Committee on Youth and Sports Development, Hon Alfred Martins stated this when he led members of the committee to the State Directorate of Youth Development on a courtesy call on the Commissioner and his management team.
Hon Martins, representing Warri North Constituency and Deputy Majority Whip of the House, emphasized the need for more efforts towards curbing youths restiveness in the society.
Accompanied by six members of the committee; Honorables Emeke Nwaobi, Anthony Elekeokwuri, Innocent Anidi, Ferguson Onwo, Kenneth Ogba and Moses Anaughe, the Lawmaker said the challenges posed by restive youths were enormous and worrisome.
He noted that the problem of insecurity plaguing the nation can only be resolved through positive engagement of the youths, stressing that priorities must be given to youth development at all times.
Hon Martins spoke on the need for government and other development partners to evolve more youths related programs in the state as well as to ensure their participation.
He stated that no society can claim to be progressing without the youths and called for effective collaboration of stakeholders.
Hon Alfred Martins said the visit was to familiarize members of the committee with the Commissioner and his team of management as well as seek ways at enhancing performance in the mandate to the Directorate.
In their remarks, Honorables Emeke Nwaobi, Anthony Elekeokwuri, Ferguson Onwo and Moses Anaughe, congratulated the Commissioner for his appointment and urged him to strive to move the Directorate forward.
The Lawmakers called for a committed and disciplined work force and assured of the needed support from the committee.
The State Commissioner, Directorate of Youth Development, Comrade Ifeanyi Egwunyenga said youth issues requires collaborative approach.
While commending the Lawmakers for the visit, the Commissioner appealed for their support at all times, disclosing that the Governor was doing so much towards youths development in the state.
