Delta Assembly Advances Bill to Combat Japa Syndrome


The Delta State House of Assembly on Wednesday 9, April, 2025, considered the Delta State Hospital Management Board Amendment Bill.

The bill is aimed at addressing a pressing issue affecting the state’s healthcare sector.

Hon. Ferguson Onwo moved the motion for the bill to be read for the second time, which was seconded by the Deputy Majority Leader.

The bill seeks to increase funding for healthcare initiatives, with a proposal to bump up the allocation from 10 million to 50 million.

Several house members supported the motion, highlighting the need to address the Japa syndrome and its impact on the state’s healthcare system.

They argued that the increased funding would help inspire health workers, ensuring they deliver quality services to support the MORE agenda.

The Delta State House of Assembly has been actively engaging with various issues affecting the state, including healthcare.

The bill has been referred to the Joint Committee on Special Bills and House Committee on Health, which is expected to review and report back to the House on May 20. The committee’s review will provide an opportunity for further scrutiny and input from stakeholders.
