Delta 2024 “Budget of Hope and Optimism” to be Passed this Week – Appropriation Chairman
There are strong indications that the Delta State Appropriation Bill for the 2024 fiscal year will be passed this week. The Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, made this known in separate sessions with journalists at the State Assembly Complex in Asaba.
On Friday, Hon. Okowa-Daramola disclosed that the Committee is expected to submit its report during the plenary of the House on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.
She confirmed that all the Standing Committees had submitted their reports, along with recommendations based on their observations during their defense sessions with the MDAs, and that her Committee will study the reports and make final recommendations before submitting them to the House as the Committee will be working over the weekend to meet the December 13th deadline for submission.
Hon. Okowa-Daramola, who represents Ika North East Constituency in the House, assured Deltans that the upcoming budget christened “Budget of Hope and Optimism” will meet their expectation of development in all sectors of the economy.
Hon. Nwaobi, who represents Aniocha North in the House, described the activities at the State Assembly Complex as normal. He explained that the budget defense sessions by the Standing Committees with MDAs of the government of Delta State is a constitutional provision that must be met in the legislative process of passing the Appropriation Bill.
The Majority Leader and Chairman of the House Committee on Information reassured the State-owned Media outfits, Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS) Asaba and Warri, the Pointer Newspaper, as well as the Information Ministry of robust synergy for enhanced information dissemination.
He admitted that the media outfits have not been performing optimally due to inadequate support and attention but expressed optimism that the present administration, in line with its M.O.R.E agenda mantra, would improve on the perceived lapses.
