Delta 2019: Who is Afraid of Cairo Ojougboh
In Delta state, the name Cairo Ojougboh is synonymous with the general desire of Deltans to a better lease of life. Right from the inception of the present democratic dispensation, Cairo Ojougboh, a Medical Doctor and Chief of Agbor Kingdom has touched the lives of so many Deltans in a positive way.
As the Special Assistant to Chief Anthony Anenih, then Minister of Works, he influenced the dualization of the Benin-Asaba Expressway amongst other lasting legacies. Today the road is still there. He also maintained a robust relationship with the Chief James Onanefe Ibori administration to attract Federal presence to the state. Chief Ojougboh from there proceeded to represent Ika Federal Constituency in 2003 at the National Assembly where by legislative activism and as Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum, he pushed for the upgrade of the Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun.
As a golden fish, Chief Ojougboh was sought after by President Umaru Yar’dua where he served the nation in that administration as the Chairman of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA).
Dr Ojougboh also rose in the arena of party politics where he was elected as the National Vice Chairman, South South of the PDP a position he held from 2012-2016. From there, Dr Ojougboh became the Deputy National Chairman of the PDP under the Chairmanship of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
His meteoric rise in politics and his capacity for grassroots mobilization has made Dr Ojougboh become the real deal of Delta state politics. This has become a source of great concern and fear for certain elements who desire to keep Deltans in political darkness and servitude. This fear is only a last resort by desperate politicians who are intimidated and threatened by the rising and towering political stature of Ojougboh.
They see in Dr Ojougboh, an honest and forthright person who would expose the EGO ARIA deception mantra of the present administration which has left Deltans impoverished. They know that Dr Ojougboh has the capacity, the resources and above all, the people on his side. This is the fear of the current administration which has made it to declare Dr Ojougboh as a persona non grata in the affairs of Delta State PDP. They fear that with Dr Cairo Ojougboh in the party, Deltans will become aware of the shenanigans and deception packaged as the SMART AGENDA where only a few benefit.
But Dr Ojougboh has indeed become the beginning of wisdom for the current occupants of the Anwai Road Government House. Ojougboh is an idea whose time has come. No amount of intimidation can stop him. Deltans are hopeful and expectant of political emancipation as represented by Ojougboh and only those that have used the SMART AGENDA to take Deltans for a ride have every reason to fear.
