Deaconess Oborevwori Urges Stakeholders to Support Education In Delta State


The wife of Delta State Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has emphasized that no child in Delta State should be left behind in pursuing knowledge and excellence.

She made this statement during the flag-off ceremony for distributing instructional materials to public primary and junior secondary schools in the state on Wednesday, March 12.

The First Lady represented by Mrs. Ifeoma Akpowowo, wife of the Deputy Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, described education as the cornerstone of development and commended the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for providing instructional materials to Delta State.

She reiterated the state government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of teaching and learning in public institutions.

Stressing government’s efforts to ensuring that every child has access to necessary tools needed to learn, grow and thrive, Deaconess Oborevwori said UBEC’s initiative to procure the instructional materials underscores the importance both federal and Delta State governments attached to the development of the education sector.

She noted that children are gifts to the society and that their unique abilities deserved to be nurtured and celebrated, even as she disclosed that her “You Matter Foundation”, is to ensure that pupils and students have access to quality education and opportunity to realize full potentials.

Deaconess Oborevwori commended SUBEB under the leadership of Hon Samuel Mariere, for its dedication and foresight in bringing the vision of the present administration in public primary schools to fusion, pointing out that the distribution of the instructional materials will surely enhance learning experience of thousands of children across the state.

The Governor’s wife encouraged other stakeholders to join hands with SUBEB to build a brighter future for every child in the state, while appealing for elimination of barriers to education, but to help foster an inclusive, compassionate and progressive society.

Hon Mariere stated that the gesture was part of UBEC-SUBEB intervention programme for quality assurance in public schools, aimed at promoting quality and effective teaching and learning in the state.

Mariere disclosed that as part of efforts to improve quality of education nationwide, management of UBEC has approved 2% of the intervention fund for quality assurance across the states of the federation to promote the monitoring of schools by SUBEB.

The SUBEB Boss applauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his commitment and support for the education sector and for prompt release of the state’s counterparts fund.

Hon Mariere promised fair distribution of the instructional materials as well as to ensure that the purpose for which they were procured are met, even as he used the opportunity to thank local government Chairmen that have donated exercise books to the board for onward distribution to public schools.

Director Academic Services, UBEC, Hajiya Mairo Ismail, represented by the Chief Education Officer, Mr Abdul -Razaq Shehuman, said distribution of instructional materials to public basic education institutions, was one of the key implementation strategies to ensure quality education in the country.

Mrs Ismail noted that UBEC is pleased with the commitment of Delta Subeb in the implementation of its policies and programmes and urged the board to sustain the positive narratives.

She said Delta State has consistently supported the transformation of the education sector, adding that the physical infrastructural development in schools in the state is unique and in consonance with international standards.

Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr Ashibuogwu, commended SUBEB for its commitment to standards in the basic education sub sector in the state.

He advised that the donated instructional materials should get to the pupils and students to achieve the objectives.

Speaking on behalf of Chairmen of the 25 local government councils, Comrade Vincent Oyibode assured SUBEB that the Councils would continue to partner with the state government in providing quality education in the state.

The highlight of the event was inspection of the donated instructional materials by Deaconess Oborevwori, accompanied by the Primary Education Commissioner, and other dignitaries.
