Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, the founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation and wife of the Governor of Delta State, has called for strong support in the fight against gender-based violence in the state.
She committed her support to the protection of every woman and girl in Delta State when Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) visited her on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Government House, Asaba in commemoration of the global 16-day activism on gender-based violence.
During the visit, Deaconess Oborevwori implored all stakeholders to lend their voice and support to victims of assault, mistreatment, and abuse of all kinds and emphasized that justice for one is justice for all. She stressed that violence against women and girls would no longer be tolerated in the state.
The governor’s wife stated that her foundation would stay committed to the fight against any form of abuse and presented the sum of N5 million naira and other gift items to the CSOs to enable them to prosecute the sensitization campaign across the state.
The CSOs, led by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Hon. Pat Ajudua, decorated the governor’s wife as the state champion against gender-based violence and presented her with a manual on the National Gender Policy.
Some of the stakeholders at the rally, described gender-based violence as a pandemic that should be given serious attention, as many victims were suffering in silence.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which has the theme, “Invest to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls,” is an annual international campaign that started on November 25 and will continue until December 10.
