Dame Okowa, O5 Initiative Donate Medication To Nigerian Correctional Service


The Wife of the Delta State Governor, Dame Edith Okowa through her foundation, O5 Initiative has yet again, presented Medication and Consumables to the 5 Correctional Centres in the state.

The presentation of these items on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, marks the 7th time,  Dame Okowa has provided drugs for Prisoners and Inmates in the Correctional Centres.

Handing over the medication to the Nigeria Correctional Service at the First Lady’s Office, Government House, Asaba, Okowa thanked God for the sustenance of the program, saying “year in year out we are able to do our Lord’s bidding according to the scripture in Matthew 25:35-36”.

While regretting that the annual visit to the centres to celebrate her birthday could not hold physically due to the challenging situation of COVID-19 pandemic, She however noted that it did not stop the foundation from reaching the inmates, “as we made provision for the celebration and we got feedback from the various prisons that it was well celebrated”.

“Today, we are presenting medication; ranging from Anti malarial drugs, Antibiotics, Others to the Five centres in the state. It is my prayer that the Lord will breathe on these drugs and bring healing to those who will take them.

“I want to thank our partners especially the Delta State Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) for their support. I also want to thank the state Comptroller and those in charge of the various Correctional Centres; Dr Elliot Ogunbor thank you for making sure the inmates are medically fit, may the Lord give you all a full reward.

“Being a staff of the Correctional Centre is beyond being a professional, this is your ministry and it is your calling. I enjoin you to do it as unto the Lord; if you put in your best to take care of these inmates entrusted to you, when they come out they will become responsible citizens of the society. I crave your indulgence to create an atmosphere of love among your team, let it be on record that you are actually turning men from the wrong path to doing what is right by this we can Change our World One person at a time.” Dame Okowa said.

Receiving the Medication on behalf of the Comptroller General, Nigerian Correctional Service, Ja’afaru Ahmed, the Comptroller, Correctional Services, Delta State Command, Friday Esezobor Ovie commended the Wife of the Governor for her unrelenting love towards the less privilege.

According to Ovie, “before I became the Comptroller in the State, I had heard so much about Dame Okowa and I can only say that she is nothing short of being a true mother of the less privileged.

“I pray that God would continue to enhance the O5 Initiative and we promise our commitment to quality service to ensure that peace reigns in the state, as much as it lies within our capacity.”
