Nigeria’s U-19 women’s cricket team, the Junior Female Yellow Greens, has secured a groundbreaking victory over New Zealand in Malaysia’s 2025 ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
The team’s debut was delayed due to rain, but they made up for lost time with a stunning two-run win.
The match played at the Sarawak Cricket Ground, was reduced to 13 overs per side due to the rain delay. New Zealand elected to field first, and Nigeria’s captain, Lucky Piety, led the charge with a steadied innings that included Nigeria’s first six at a Women’s World Cup.
The Junior Yellow Greens finished with 65 runs for the loss of six wickets in 13 overs.
In the second innings, Sarah Bakhita’s team took a slow and steady approach, eventually knocking off the fourth-ranked nation for 63 runs for the loss of six wickets.
This thrilling victory marked Nigeria’s first win against a non-African team in a major ICC tournament.
