China Hits Back at US with 84% Tariffs, Set to Blacklist US Firms
China has retaliated against the US by imposing 84% tariffs on American imports, effective Thursday, in response to President Donald Trump’s latest tariff measures.
The US had imposed 104% duties on Chinese products, prompting China’s finance ministry to condemn the move as “piling mistakes on top of mistakes” and infringing on China’s legitimate rights and interests.
China’s finance ministry announced a rise in tariff rates from 34% to 84% on US imports, effective Thursday.
In a separate statement, Beijing’s commerce ministry said it would blacklist six American artificial intelligence firms, including Shield AI Inc. and Sierra Nevada Corp.
China’s commerce ministry stated that the US moves “severely damage the multilateral rules-based trade system”.
