Buhari’s Chief Of Staff, Abba Kyari Dies Battling COVID-19
The Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, has died after contracting the deadly Coronavirus Disease, Covid-19.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina announced the demise in a Facebook Post in the early hours of Saturday, April 18.
“The Presidency regrets to announce the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari.
“The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020.
“May God accept his soul. Funeral arrangements will be announced shortly:, the statement read.
Abba Kyari who was in his 70s and had underlying health problems, including diabetes and was one of the most powerful men in Nigeria.
Kyari’s death is the highest profile death of COVID-19 in Nigeria which has 493 confirmed cases and 17 deaths, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on April 17, 2020
He was loosely referred to as Nigeria’s unofficial President and had travelled to Germany this March with a delegation of other Nigerian officials for meetings with the company, Siemens.
Upon return to the country, He attended meetings with senior government officials upon his return to Nigeria. Some of the officials at the meeting had also tested positive to Coronavirus Disease.
