Breaking: Supreme Court Removes Julius Abure as LP Chairman
The Supreme Court has sacked Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
The five-member panel of judges on Friday unanimously set aside the Court of Appeal’s ruling, which had recognized Abure as the party’s chairman.
The Supreme Court held that the appellate court lacked jurisdiction to make such a declaration, as the case concerned the party’s internal leadership. The court emphasized that party leadership matters are internal affairs, over which the judiciary has no jurisdiction.
The appeal filed by Senator Esther Usman and another was deemed meritorious, leading the court to allow it.
The court further observed that Abure’s tenure had already expired, resulting in the dismissal of the cross-appeal filed by the Abure faction of the Labour Party.
