Asaba Correspondents’ Chapel Lauds Okowa Over Appointment of its Senior Colleagues
The Asaba Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Saturday, August 3, 2019, lauded the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for appointing its members and seasoned journalists into his media team.
The Chapel’s appreciation was conveyed in a congratulatory message to the appointees which was signed by its Chairman, Mr. Paul Osuyi and  Secretary, Mr. Dominic Adewole in Asaba.
The Correspondents felicitated with Mr. Jackson Ekwugum, who retained his position as Manager Communications and Mr. Olisa Ifeajika of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a former chairman of the chapel and veteran journalist as Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor.
It also felicitated with a former chairman of the chapel, Mr. Victor Efeizomor, another senior member of the chapel, Mr. Ameachi Udemba, and Mr. Nelson Egware who were retained as Governor’s SAs (Media).
The chapel commended the governor for looking inwards, describing the appointees as round pegs in round holes.
The statement read in parts: “The appointments are well deserved considering the fact that these are tested journalists with track records of professional performance on the job.
“The chapel is very confident that the appointees will bring their enormous wealth of experience to bear on their new assignments, and contribute handsomely to the actualisation of the ‘Stronger Delta’ vision of the governor.
“The appointments were based on merit as the governor is known to be very meticulous.”
It, however, urged the appointees to discharge their duties with professionalism, utmost diligence and commitment in order to justify the huge confidence reposed on them by the governor.
It further advised the appointees to explore all possible ways of consolidating the relationship between the governor and the chapel, in particular, and other practising journalists in the state, in general.
“We want to once again congratulate our senior colleagues whom the governor has called up to serve in another capacity, though on a very familiar turf.
“While we thank the governor for looking inwards, we wish to urge the appointees to be very diligent on the new assignment, and build on the existing relationship between their principal and journalists.
“We also advise the appointees to guide against bickering of any kind, as doing otherwise  will jeopardize the objectives of the governor,” it added.
