Asaba 2018: Governor Okowa Has Made Deltans and Nigerians Proud – Aghoghovbia


The Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Beautification, Olorogun Mrs Grace Aghoghovbia has attributed the success of the recently concluded African Senior Athletics Championship to the untiring efforts of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

In a chat with ASABA METRO, Olorogun Aghoghovbia noted that the 21st edition of the Competition tagged, “Asaba 2018” which witnessed a massive presence of top-notch athletes across the continent and tourists beyond Africa, for the first time in its history recorded the highest number of participating countries.

“The large turnout of athletes, officials, spectators and fans was anticipated owing to the record of His Excellency’s love for Sports development. When the contingents arrived Asaba, they were thrilled by Governor Okowa’s massive investment in critical infrastructure and specially pleased with the facilities at the Stephen Keshi Stadium which the athletes and even the IAAF President described as among the best in the world. His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has really made Deltans and Nigerians proud by the successful hosting of this continental showpiece and the benefits will be felt for a long time to come.”

Olorogun Mrs Grace Aghoghovbia praised Governor Okowa for stepping out to save the nation of international embarrassment owing to the initial flight challenges recorded by some participating countries at the Lagos Airport. She praised the big heart and magnanimity of Governor Okowa who through relentless effort with LOC reached out to commercial airlines to convey the athletes and officials to Asaba and thereby saved the nation’s reputation when it mattered most.

“It is on this note that I stand to condemn in its entirety, the unguarded statements by some self seeking individuals who sought to demean the noble efforts of the Delta state government under the leadership of Senator Okowa in relation to the Asaba Championship. They cannot detract Deltans, Nigerians and indeed Africans from the success of the African Senior Athletics Championship”.

While lauding Governor Okowa for seeing through the competition, the Executive Assistant called on Deltans and Residents in the State to support the SMART Agenda of the State Government which is currently yielding results with sustained Job Creation, construction and rehabilitation of roads, improvement of Healthcare system and infrastructures amongst others.

“I wish to also use this opportunity to call on all Deltans to to sustain their support for His Excellency, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa to enable him fully accomplish his SMART Agenda for the State. He has given youths the power to create their own wealth through the STEP and YAGEP programmes, turned the State into a huge construction site with legacy projects scattered across the three senatorial districts and has restored the confidence of investors through his effort in peace and security building”.

It will be noted that Olorogun Mrs Grace Aghoghovbia since her appointment in 2015 as the Executive Assistant to Governor Okowa on Beautification, has stood out in her engagement with the private sector in the area of beautification of roads and public parks.

Her efforts have led to the remodeling and beautification of the Okpanam Road axis of Asaba by the United Bank for Africa (UBA), the redesign and beautification of DSC Roundabout in Warri by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), the ongoing beautification of Interbau Intersection and Summit-Anwai Road Asaba by Zenith Bank amongst others soon to be unveiled.
