Vote of No Confidence: Aniocha North Council Chairman Says Allegation By Legislative Arm False

Following the allegations of fraud leveled against the chairman of Aniocha North Local Government Council, Hon. Chuks Oseme, by the legislative arm of the council, the Editor of Emeraldng.com reached out to the chairman and below is his response reproduced verbatim.

“Yes, those allegations are spurious, they are just a very big lie. Let me start with the vote of no confidence. That is a very big lie and you can confirm from the majority leader of the house, and majority of the councilors. You don’t pass vote of no confidence from your bedroom.

It is just the leader that is disgruntled and is just forming all these things. It is very much illegal and these things can be confirmed from the other councilors. Then, the issue of N10million that was squandered, the accountant general of the local government is there, they check our books, everything was done with approvals from the local government executive council.

I don’t think anybody ties a local government to what project it should execute. I hope you know that. So, we have done what we have to do and our books are there for the records. Expenditure of funds is not in the hands of the legislature. We have executive committee that determines what projects should be done and approvals are given. We have our documents.

On the issue of due process, do they know what due process is? The people that talk about due process are the auditor general, they check our books from time to time. When people are disgruntled, they start looking for faults that do not exist. As a journalist, somebody can just come out and say you did this and that. Does that make him correct?

Check your local government law, the councilors should vote before passing vote of no confidence. As I speak to you, come to the council and find out from majority of the councilors, they will tell you nothing like that happened, they did not vote. They are all framed up.

I know the leader, this is his second term. In his first term, he was suspended for misconduct for three months. And he put the blame on me. This time around, he is on a vendetta. But I told him I don’t have his time. These things can be confirmed from past councilors and present.

He has always been like that and I told him all those misconduct, can you do that in your family. That is somebody that beat up his mother. Yes, you can find out from Issele Uku people. They know him. He can call the councilors to meeting, in the cause of the meeting, he can just stand up and walk out.

So, he’s an unruly person. It’s just unfortunate that they foist such a person on the councilors. The councilors are beginning to realize that the guy is on a backward mission. Those things are all spurious allegations. They can be confirmed from other councilors.

A leader is not the all and all of a legislative arm. Other people have their contributions. It is the duty of the clerk of the house to carry out all correspondence. You can find time to confirm from the clerk of the house.

Everything they are saying is all lies from the pit of hell. I no see money wen I wan chop, na N10million. Can N10million do capital project? N1million is already out for retirement. We have done some good things in the council. We did some renovations, we did sanitation. If you go to that Obulu Uku junction at the express, there is a big heap of refuse that has been there for many years, we cleared it and did many other things. The books are there to show. If you dey beg for money, you want bribe and person no give you, it becomes another thing.”
