Aniagwu to Opposition: Stop Spreading Lies, Acknowledge Delta’s Progress

Commissioner Charles Aniagwu warns politicians against spreading falsehoods, urging them to acknowledge Delta’s progress

The Delta State Government has issued a stern warning against what it described as “idle politicians” spreading misinformation about the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, made this known during a press conference in Asaba on Monday, 3rd March, stating that the government would not allow false narratives to overshadow its achievements.

Flanked by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Mr. Felix Ofou, Aniagwu emphasized that the administration would continue to counter critics with verifiable projects across the state.

Aniagwu was reacting to comments made by former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, during his visit to Bomadi and Burutu Local Government Areas. He criticized the opposition for failing to acknowledge the progress made under the Oborevwori administration, stating, “The opposition should be able to show some element of patriotism in identifying what government is doing and not to tell lies that make them look uninformed.” He added that the administration would ensure that politicians engaging in misinformation were kept informed of the state’s development projects.

Highlighting the government’s efforts, Aniagwu outlined various projects spanning health, education, road construction, and agriculture. He pointed to ongoing infrastructure development, including the Ughelli-Asaba road, Ohoror-Bomadi road (47km), and the newly approved Bomadi-Gbaregolor road (18.6km). He also noted the reconstruction of the Okontu-Ogulaha road (12.5km) in Burutu, along with several projects in Warri South-West, Warri North, and Warri South. “We have also completed a number of roads in Warri South, including the Upper and Lower Erejuwa Road and Esisi Road,” he said.

The commissioner further detailed development efforts in Delta North, including the rehabilitation of the Ogbeogonogo-Nnebisi road, the facelift of Summit Road, and major road reconstructions in Okpanam and Ibusa. “Governor Oborevwori has taken actions to improve the landscape and skyline of the capital territory,” Aniagwu said. He also cited the completed Beneku Bridge, which has replaced pontoons for crossing the Asse Creek in Ndokwa East, as a major milestone.

Addressing Omo-Agege’s allegations that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had neglected certain areas of the state over the past 25 years, Aniagwu reminded the former senator of his own role in government.

“When somebody says nothing is happening, he forgets that he was Secretary to the State Government under those years. What that means is that he has scored himself very low,” he remarked. He added that the Oborevwori administration had moved beyond past failures and was delivering real progress.

Aniagwu concluded by cautioning against illegal mining at Ugbolu Heights and other areas in the state, warning perpetrators of legal consequences. “All those digging and destroying the landscape of the Ugbolu Heights must desist from doing so or risk arrest,” he stated. He urged opposition figures to “wise up” and engage with facts rather than resort to misinformation, reaffirming that the government remained committed to development across all senatorial districts.
