Amidst Fury and Chaos, Elumelu Floors Mrakpor at PDP HoRs Primaries
Just like the Biblical account of bringing dead Lazarus back to Life, the younger brother to Billionaire, Mr Tony Elumelu, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 made a great comeback to mainstream politics as he clinched the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives (HoRs) ticket for Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency.
The primary election which many had envisaged may turnout to be a semblance of the 2014 scenario, was aired live on Channels Television for a greater part of Nigerians to see the transparent process mandated by the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
Elumelu who had been perceived to have gone comatose from public politics after loosing out of the governorship ticket of the PDP in 2014, startled the incumbent HoRs member, Rt. Hon. Onyeameachi Mrakpor with signals of his comeback in December 2017.
The election process started off in a peaceful mood with two additional contestants; Rt. Hon. Peter Onwusanya and Mr Ike Onwudiamo, joining the race for the juicy position.
However, the peaceful process was murdered when Mrakpor threw her evangelical apron to flames in an attempt to scuttle the election and upturn the results being counted in her favour.
Backed by some political actors within the constituency, a theater of war erupted as Policemen and all gun handlers in the arena save the DSS operatives, shot at will, disorganizing and disorienting party delegates, journalists and others who quickly fled for the safety of their lives.
Prior to this ugly event, the electoral officers had announced the results of three contestants; Mr. Mr Ike Onwudiamo got One vote, Rt. Hon. Peter Onwusanya gathered 13 votes and 226 votes were recorded for Rt. Hon. Onyeameachi Mrakpor.
Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu picked the party’s ticket after the counting of the votes was completed at the State Police Command Headquarters which saw him polling a total of 266 votes.
Elumelu will now slug it out with opposing candidates from other parties in order for him to finalize the anticipated comeback to the Green Chambers in 2019 for a Third term.
