Akpabio Demands Natasha’s Prosecution Over Assassination Allegation
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Attorney General of the Federation, demanding the prosecution of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Akpabio claims Akpoti-Uduaghan made “criminally defamatory and inciting” remarks by alleging he plotted her assassination.
The allegations stem from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s April 1 speech in Kogi State, where she accused Akpabio of directing former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello to orchestrate her killing. Akpabio denies the claims, calling them “a heinous lie” and “reckless attempt to damage my reputation.”
In his petition, Akpabio stated, “This statement is not only a heinous lie but a reckless and deliberate attempt to damage my reputation, endanger my life and security, and incite political unrest.” He urged the police to consider charges under criminal defamation, incitement, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
Natasha has since challenged Akpabio to sue her over the allegations, saying, “I am hearing that the Senate President wants to sue me for that, I will tell him to go ahead. We will meet and cross that bridge.”
This latest development follows a history of tension between Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan. Akpoti-Uduaghan previously accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, an allegation that led to her temporary suspension from the Senate.
The senator has also defied a state and police ban on rallies and public gatherings in Kogi State, sparking further controversy.
