A Decade Chapter Closes as De Bruyne Leave Manchester City
Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne confirmed that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season.
The 33-year-old Belgian international has spent nearly a decade with City, winning an impressive 14 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2023
In a heartfelt message on social media, De Bruyne expressed his gratitude to the club, the city, and its people. “Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes. That day is here, and you deserve to hear it from me first.”
De Bruyne reflected on his journey, saying, “Football led me to all of you, and to this city. Chasing my dream, not knowing this period would change my life. This City. This club. These people, gave me EVERYTHING. I had no choice but to give EVERYTHING back! And guess what, we won everything.”
The Belgian international has been instrumental in City’s rise to the dominant force in English football.
With his contract set to expire at the end of June, De Bruyne’s future remains uncertain. It is unclear whether he will participate in the Club World Cup, which takes place from June 14 to July 13.
He was twice crowned players’ player of the year in 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 and is second in the Premier League’s all-time standings for assists on 118.
De Bruyne concluded his message by saying, “Every story comes to an end, but this has definitely been the best chapter. Let’s enjoy these last moments together!”
