New Alaafin Of Oyo Emerges
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has formally approved Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade to become the new Alaafin of Oyo.
This decision comes after the Oyomesi, the council of kingmakers in Oyo, recommended Prince Owoade following extensive consultations and traditional rites.
According to Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Owoade’s appointment ends the socio-legal disputes that arose after the passing of Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III on April 22, 2022.
“Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade, after thorough consultations and divinations, has been recommended by the Oyomesi and approved by Governor Seyi Makinde as the new Alaafin of Oyo,” Oyelade said.
Oyelade further expressed optimism, stating, “We are optimistic that his reign will foster harmony, prosperity, and development for the people of Oyo”
Ademola Ojo, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, urged the people of Oyo State to celebrate this historic moment and support the new monarch.
“This decision has put to rest all the socio-legal controversies that have arisen since the transition of the late Oba Adeyemi. We urge the people of Oyo State to support the new Alaafin and join the government in celebrating this historic moment,” Ojo stated.
