2019: You Don’t Deserve a Third Term – Political Party Chairmen Tell Ossai
…. Endorse Olisa Imegwu
Coalition of State Chairmen of Registered Political Parties in Delta State, has advised the member representing the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency, at the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ossai N. Ossai to shelve his plans of recontesting for a third term in 2019, since he has failed woefully to champion the cause of the Ndokwa people.
The group argued that there is nothing significant that Ossai N. Ossai has done to bring dividends of democracy to the Ndokwa Nation that would warrant his going back in 2019.
The political party Chairmen made their positions known in a press statement titled, “A strident call on the Ndokwa Nation to return Dr. Olisa Imegwu to the House of Representatives in 2019 in order to halt further oppression and marginalisation of the Ndokwa people”, and endorsed by the trio of Chief Efe Tobor, Amb. Jude Eze and Comrade Emeka Bidokwu, the chairman, secretary and publicity secretary respectively.
According to the coalition, the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency of Delta State is the only area in Delta North senatorial district that produces oil and gas in commercial quantity, which enjoy the distinction of being called an oil producing area, but unfortunately, the area has nothing to show, due to inept leadership or poor representation.
“We note that since 1999 till date only the Ndokwa West and Ukwuani LGAs have been producing the House of Representatives members, including a three time Senator, but the only time Dr. Olisa Imegwu from Ndokwa East LGA won the election to represent the Federal Constituency, his tenure was short-lived as it was judicially truncated under very controversial circumstances.”
Continuing; “the short period Dr. Imegwu stayed in the House of Representatives, he sponsored two motions which were successfully passed. They were the repair and rehabilitation of Ossissa/Kwale/Ozoro/Oleh roads and the rehabilitation of Emu-Uno/Abbi/Ogume/Onicha Ukwuani roads and the Kwale/Ashaka/Igbuku roads which were handed over to the Federal Road Maintenance Agency FERMA, to fix.”
The party Chairmen further observed that the Ndokwa people still view the Imegwu days at the House of Representatives with nostalgia as Dr. Imegwu hit the ground running with a sense of purpose and urgency to change the story of the Ndokwa people, warning that Ossai N. Ossai attempt to go back to the House of Representatives in 2019 is not only deceitful but also ungentlemanly as he had passionately pleaded for support from stakeholders of the Ndokwa Nation in his 2015 bid with a promise to support an Ndokwa East son to go to the House of Representatives.”
It could be recalled that in line with that promise, the stakeholders in the 37 clans of the Ndokwa Nation recently endorsed Dr. Imegwu as their preferred choice for 2019 Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency election in view of the dismal performance of Ossai N. Ossai so far.
“The stakeholders contend that Imegwu, even out of office has been championing the cause of the Ndokwa Nation through an open door policy which has become his leadership trademark. They have also agreed that Ndokwa East LGA should be giving the opportunity to represent the constituency in 2019 since Ndokwa West and Ukwuani LGAs have both had their turn of two terms each.”
While calling on Ndokwa people to rally support for Dr. Olisa Imegwu as he get set to go back to the House of Representatives in order to change the fortunes of the people, the Coalition maintained that the choice of Imegwu will be panacea for the continued relegation and marginalisation of the people in the socio-political and economic equation of Delta State and Nigeria in general.
The Coalition recalled that while Imegwu was at the State House Assembly he was voted and crowned as the best legislator in his time, and influenced landmark projects which includes; the N9 billion Kwale/Ashaka/Igbuku roads, N70 million Ossissa road project, N50 million Afor Obidigbo road project, Obi Opute road project. Other projects attracted by Dr. Imegwu when he was in the Assembly were; Obetim/Afor/Obikwele/Ossissa electrification which was completed and Afor/Isselegu/Ugiliamai/Utagba-Uno electrification project.
“Dr. Imegwu played a major role with the support of Beneku community led by Chief Paul Otuya, the Okpai Community Development Committee, led by Capt. Nwadozie and Royal Majesty to facilitate the location of Independent Power Project, IPP located in Okpai. Influenced the contract to construct the four miles shore protection project in Okpai.”
It is equally on record that Dr. Imegwu got two bills passed into law namely; the law of precedence of the Delta State and the control of Animals (cattle), movement law and so many motions
Continuing; “Dr. Imegwu’s capacity is not in doubt, as a former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, he understands the terrain of the the Ndokwa landscape and the people. An activist and benefactor to so many people, he has published so many articles that reflects the unfair resource allocation to the Ndokwa Nation. He was nicked named ‘Point of Order’, because of his legislative efficiency and skills. Dr. Imegwu has a B.A, Second Class Upper Division, an MPA and Ph.D from the University of New Orleans, USA and has capped his outstanding qualifications with LL.B from DELSU. It is on this basis that the Coalition of Registered Political Parties in Delta State endorse Dr. Imegwu’s aspiration to represents the Ndokwa Nation at the National Assembly”
